Marina & Boatyard Security Cameras

Solar 4G security camera on a pole overlooking cradled yachts at a UK boatyard

Outboards, electronics, trailers and tenders make boatyards one of the most quietly-targeted sites in the UK — and water and electrics are awkward company for wired CCTV. A solar 4G camera covers pontoons, slipways and hardstanding with no cabling near the water and no reliance on clubhouse broadband.

What goes missing around boats

Marine kit is valuable, portable and often unmarked. Most of it disappears at night, off-season, from exactly the corners of the yard nobody can see from the office.

Outboard engines

The classic. Unbolted from tenders and transoms in minutes, easily sold on, and rarely recovered without footage of the vehicle that carried them away.

Electronics and gear

Chartplotters, VHF sets, batteries, warps and fenders stripped from moored and stored boats over repeated quiet visits.

Winter lay-up

Cradled and trailered boats sit for months in yards that are near-deserted between October and April — the longest unattended window in boating.

Slipways and trailers

Public slipways attract unauthorised launching, dumped trailers and vehicle break-ins, usually well away from any building.

How 4G cameras work around water

Each camera is self-contained — solar power, 4G connection, local recording — so nothing needs trenching across a yard or wiring along a pontoon.

  1. Cover the choke pointsYard gate, slipway, and the walkway to the pontoons. Buildings, masts and lighting poles all take the included wall and pole fixings.
  2. Nothing to wire near the waterThe 26W solar panel powers the camera where armoured cable and RCDs would otherwise have to go — a genuine saving in a marine environment.
  3. Alerts to the harbourmaster or bosunPerson and vehicle detection pushes alerts to the CamHipro app on multiple phones — office staff, the duty officer, or a nearby liveaboard.
  4. Multi-network 4G at the coastCoverage at harbours can be patchy per-network; the included SIM connects through whichever of EE, O2, Three or Vodafone is strongest on the day.

Clubs, marinas and private moorings each use it differently

Sailing and yacht clubs are volunteer-run, with no security staff and a clubhouse that is empty most weekdays. One camera on the dinghy park and one on the gate transform that — funded once, no monthly cloud fees, shared among the flag officers through the app.

Commercial marinas and boatyards use them as flexible infrastructure: cover this winter’s cradle rows, then move cameras when the layout changes at fit-out season. Local recording per camera keeps costs flat as the fleet grows, and berth holders notice the cameras — it answers the security question during the annual contract conversation.

Private owners on swinging moorings, canal offside moorings or drying berths mount a camera on their own frontage or jetty to watch one boat. With the yard or navigation authority’s permission where needed, it is the cheapest overwatch a boat can have — angled at your own mooring, not your neighbour’s.

Salt and weather: the cameras are built for permanent outdoor mounting. In exposed coastal spots, rinse the lens and panel occasionally with fresh water as you would any deck gear, and mount with the included brackets clear of spray where practical.

Marina & boatyard camera questions, answered

Can we put a camera where there's no power, like the slipway?

Yes. The camera powers itself from the included 26W solar panel and 15,600mAh battery and connects over 4G, so a pole by the slipway is all it needs.

Is it suitable for a coastal environment?

The cameras are designed for permanent outdoor use in UK weather. At exposed saltwater sites, an occasional freshwater rinse of the lens and panel keeps the view clear, just like any other deck-level kit.

Can a berth holder point a camera at their own boat?

With the marina or yard’s permission, yes. Keep it angled at your own mooring and access, not neighbouring berths, and it becomes a personal watchkeeper for one boat.

Will it get signal at the harbour?

The included SIM can use EE, O2, Three or Vodafone, whichever is strongest at your site — which solves the single-network dead spots common around harbours and estuaries.

What does the club pay ongoing?

SIM data only. Recording is local to each camera’s included 64GB card, so there are no per-camera cloud subscriptions for the treasurer to grumble about.
